Creamy Dahi Aloo Recipe with a Healthy Twist

Last updated on October 27, 2025

Aloo (potatoes) are the go-to comfort ingredient in Indian kitchens. It’s a quick-fix hero for preparing endless home curries. From a quick stir-fry to a spicy curry or a festive treat, potatoes can perfectly sneak their way into our meals. My today’s Dahi Aloo recipe gives this humble kitchen star a delicious, creamy twist. Whether a regular day or a fasting day, this recipe is perfect for those seeking a light yet satisfying comfort meal.

This version keeps authentic Indian flavours intact while keeping it healthier and waist-line friendly. It’s like your traditional Dahi Aloo, reimagined for those who prefer eating a clean, wholesome meal without compromising on taste. The best part is that you can prepare it within 30 minutes. This recipe is a perfect blend of spice, tang, and comfort. With dahi (curd), the recipe gets a rich, velvety texture while the cumin and ghee lend a perfect Indian aroma to it.

It is also a great choice for those on a low-carb lifestyle, since you can adjust the ingredients as per your dietary goals. Consider small portions of potato balancing high-fat yogurt and healthy ghee, making it a guilt-free indulgence that aligns with your diet plan.

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 Boiled Potatoes
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper (crushed)
  • 1/2 tsp Sendha Namak
  • 1/2 tsp Ghee
  • 1 Green Chilly, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 tsp Ginger
  • 2 tsp Buckwheat Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Peppercorn(crushed)
  • 1 cup Dahi (curd)
  • 1 cup Water

Instructions:

  1. Put a pan over a medium flame and add ghee to melt. Once warm, add cumin seeds and let them crackle for a while.
  2. Add crushed black pepper while stirring the ingredients until fragrant.
  3. Add boiled potatoes to it and sprinkle some sendha namak. Pan-fry until the potatoes develop a lovely golden crust.
  4. Now, take another pan and add ½ tsp ghee. Once warm, add cumin seeds, chopped green chili, crushed pepper corns, and ginger.
  5. Once the spices release their aroma, add buckwheat flour to it and sauté for 1–2 minutes to remove its raw taste.
  6. Slowly pour in the whisked curd, followed by water. Consistently keep stirring the mixture to prevent curdling.
  7. When the mixture begins to simmer, add the golden-fried potatoes. Allow it to cook for 8 to 10 minutes until the gravy turns creamy and thickens.
  8. Adjust the seasoning as per your preference and garnish with coriander leaves or green chili.

This Aloo Dahi recipe is flavorful and satisfying. You can pair it with Almond flour Roti or Broccoli Rice for a complete meal. For those following a Keto diet, consider tweaking it slightly with a reduced quantity of potato and use Greek yogurt for extra creaminess. Further, serve it with sautéed veggies for making it indulgent yet more balanced.
