10 Best Breakfast In Manchester Spots

These 10 Best Breakfast in Manchester Spots have all been tried and tested, and I can heartily recommend visiting any of these popular places in the vibrant UK city.

I’ve made it my personal mission since moving to England over 8 months ago to try as many different breakfast spots in Manchester to find all of the best, tastiest options for when you’re visiting the city.

1. Pot Kettle Black

On my very first visit ever to Manchester, I found my way to the highly recommended Pot Kettle Black Cafe. The city reminds me very much of Melbourne, where I lived for over 20 years, so it felt fitting for my first breakfast in the city to be at an “Aussie inspired cafe”.

They have what they call their ‘Benny Bar Menu’ with a choice of classic and unique flavored Eggs Benedicts. I went for the classic Eggs Benedict that was served with house cured honey mustard back bacon, perfectly poached eggs and hollandaise sauce on crunchy sourdough toast.

Overall, the dish was an incredible introduction to food in Manchester – fresh, flavorful and wonderfully satisfying.

2. Ezra and Gil

I visited the trendy Northern Quarter location of Ezra and Gil and discovered a relaxed, yet cozy atmosphere at the much recommended cafe.

Much to my delight, there’s an extensive breakfast and brunch menu, which also included a number of Eggs Benedict options, so this almost turned into an Eggs Benedict tour of Manchester since my choice was for an Eggs Benedict!

On this occasion though my Benedict was a meaty Reuben, with grilled pastrami, beef tomatoes and gherkins. Just what I was craving without realising it! The flavors worked so well together and were perfectly complemented by the runny poached egg and hollandaise.

3. Moose Coffee

Conveniently located near Piccadilly Station, Moose Coffee serves up Northern American/Canadian breakfasts, making it perfect when you’re craving something a little different for your most important meal of the day. There’s an incredible choice of pancakes, waffles, Eggs Benedicts and menu items served with homemade crispy potato hash.

I went for the Mighty Moose breakfast which consisted of flavourful homemade crispy fried potato hash with garlic, onion and Dijon mustard and topped with fried eggs and bacon rashers, served with toast and butter.

The breakfast was hearty and super flavorful, a great meal to fuel a day of exploring Manchester.

4. Piccadilly Tavern

Another spot a short walk from Piccadilly Station, The Piccadilly Tavern is a lively pub that serves up a budget friendly breakfast menu.

Having recently moved from Ireland, I couldn’t resist giving their Hearty Irish breakfast a try. The generous breakfast plate consisted of Two Irish pork & leek sausages, two rashers of grilled back bacon, two fried free-range eggs, two hash browns, baked beans, grilled tomato, two flat mushrooms and your toast with butter – certainly a hearty way to start the day!

5. Fluffy Fluffy

Head to Fluffy Fluffy for the fluffiest freshly made heavenly soufflé pancakes in Manchester, that you can enjoy with a selection of indulgent toppings. Due to the fresh nature of the pancakes, you do have to wait a little bit for them to be cooked for you.

We went for the Signature Pancakes, topped with fresh cream and fruit and the Nutella Strawberry Pancakes, topped with rich Nutella and fresh strawberries.

Both of which were cooked to absolute perfection, incredibly light, not too sweet, yet a decadent treat that’s absolutely worth the wait.

6. Bold Street Coffee

You’ll find this monstrous breakfast burger at Bold Street Coffee, who have a couple of locations around Manchester. (And Liverpool too.)

I went for the Bacon Buoy with a hash brown added for an extra tasty addition. The scrambled eggs were luxuriously creamy and the bacon and hash brown was perfectly crisp, truly a magnificent breakfast burger.

7. Cafe 19

Cafe 19 consistently has a queue stretching out their door, even when we arrived at, what we believed to be early at around 9:30am!

We started with the below pictured incredibly rich and decadent biscoff hot drink, my son had smoked salmon and avocado bagel topped with poached eggs while I had the above pictured indulgent American breakfast which included perfectly cooked, runny eggs, hash browns, super crispy bacon and light, fluffy pancakes.

The cafe has a vibrant buzz, the breakfasts and hot drink were well worth the wait and I can see why it’s so popular.

8. Gooey – Viral Breakfast in Manchester Spot

Another always busy breakfast in Manchester spot, Gooey is famous for viral French toast and picture perfect egg mayo sandwich.

We shared both to try out their viral dishes and found that the French toast was not only visually stunning but also rich, sweet and perfect for sharing. The bread was super soft and doughy, crisp on the outside, pillowy soft and filled with sweet caramel within.

The egg mayo sandwich was the stuff of dreams! The bread was lightly toasted, had the perfect balance of richness from the creamy egg mayo, in addition to the gorgeous gummy hard boiled egg, possibly the most indulgent egg mayo in existence.

Inside the cafe you’ll also find a tempting choice of cookies, donuts and other treats in the display too. As mentioned, there’s always a queue outside, but I believe it’s well worth the wait and hype.

9. Hampton & Vouis

For healthy breakfasts and some of the best coffee in Manchester, in a small, yet vibrant cafe head to Hampton & Vouis.

I had their refreshing Acai bowl, that’s vegan and gluten free too. The dish is sweet, loaded with Açai sorbet and topped with a tasty mixture of crunchy nuts, granola, coconut and blueberries.

The menu is also packed with plenty of tempting vegan and gluten free options, perfect if you’re after a meal that meets a range of dietary requirements.

10. Mackie Mayor – Unique Breakfast in Manchester Option

If you’re after a unique spot to have breakfast or brunch then make your way to Mackie Mayor, a food hall located in an exceptional 1858 Grade II listed market building.

There’s an incredible, tempting choice of eateries, and you can have a traditional breakfast or go for ramen, burgers or tacos if you’d like something a little different to start your day with.

I went for a simple bacon and egg sandwich that was loaded with smoked bacon and a perfectly runny fried egg. I enjoyed my breakfast while admiring the architecturally stunning surroundings.
